High Court Orders Magoha, TSC Meeting Over School Reopening Conditions

High Court on Wednesday, October 7, ordered Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha to convene a meeting with education stakeholders including the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) ahead of reopening of schools.

The meeting is set to agree on conditions set for reopening of schools after the Ministry of Education announced that exam candidates in primary and secondary schools are scheduled to resume classes on Monday, October 12.

The petition was filed in High Court by a parent, Joseph Enock Aura, who also blocked the implementation of the Community Based Learning.

Among the respondents listed include TSC, Kenya Private Schools Association, Kenya Parents Association, Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, Kenya Primary School Heads Association and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers among others.

Magoha was ordered by the High Court to file the stakeholders responses together with their respective submissions within the next three working days from Wednesday.

The first meeting is set to held on Wednesday, October 7 and convened at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Jogoo House, Nairobi.

Justice James Makau stated that a mention is set for Wednesday October 14 to confirm the outcome of the meeting and filing of the responses and submission for further directions.

Magoha on Tuesday announced that KCSE and KCPE candidates would commence their exams in March 2021 after resuming classes in October.

"Education CS George Magoha has announced the reopening of schools for Grade 4, Class 8 and Form Four learners on Monday, October 12, 2020.

"KCPE examinations to start on March 22, 2021 and end on March 24, 2021," noted Magoha in a statement.

Magoha followed up the announcement by revealing that the Government had already disbursed funds to run public primary schools on Wednesday.
