Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi, on Monday, October 12, had his match to Parliament blocked by Police.
The LSK head had earlier written a letter to the police informing them of the planned march to Parliament to register their support for Chief Justice David Maraga's recent order to have Parliament Dissolved.
Havi was accompanied by 20 other members of the society when they were stopped by police officers at the parliament gate.
In the video, the team is heard trying to negotiate their way into the building arguing that they had kept their word; bringing along only 20 people as promised in their letter.
"As leaders, we would like to engage our colleagues and as we indicated in the letter. We came only 20 of us. If you count, you will notice we have not gone overboard," explained one of the members.
The officers agreed to allow only two leaders into the compound citing Covid-19 containment measures.
"We only need two of the leadership because of Covid-19 containment measures and so many other issues. If that is not acceptable, then I think you can go and do another letter," explained the guard.
Havi had written to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, speakers and clerks of the Senate and National Assembly over the planned march.
“I refer to the advisory dated September 21, 2020, from the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya to the President of the Republic of Kenya.
"Parliament stands dissolved by operation of law on October 12, 2020, should the President of the Republic of Kenya have failed to dissolve it as advised by the chief justice,” read the letter in part.
The event had been slated to take place at 2.30 pm.
