Friends of the late Churchill show comedian Ben Maurice Onyango alias Othuol Othuol have dispelled rumours that they abandoned him in his hour of need.

Speaking during a radio show on Milele FM, comedian Kazungu Matano known to many as Captain Otoyo narrated that he, actress Sandra Dacha and radio presenter Felix Odiwuor (Jalang'o), provided assistance to the late comedian.

Otoyo stated that the late Othuol had been diagnosed with Tuberculosis in 2018 and was prescribed medicine that he was supposed to take for 60 days.

"After 30 days, however, he stopped taking the prescribed medication and started indulging in alcohol," he narrated.

On learning that Othuol had stopped taking medicine, the trio was frustrated and warned that he was putting his life in danger.

"The three of us went and did hid his shopping as well as rallied our fellow comedians to help raise funds for his medical expenses. I read on blogs people weren’t there for Othuol, we were there for him," Otoyo clarified.

In addition, the comedian, who doubles up as a radio presenter stated that the deceased was stressed because he did not have a steady source of income.

Throughout his illness, Otoyo disclosed that comedians raised funds to cater for his hospital bills.

"He wasn't an employed comedian on Churchill show and so he wasn't getting a salary at the end of the month. He was only paid when he made an appearance and that is why he started acting on Aunty Boss," Otoyo stated.

The late Othuol was recently diagnosed with brain tumor and died aged 31 at the Kenyatta National Hospital on Sunday, October 11.

Plans are underway to inter his body at his ancestral home in Ndere, Alego, Siaya County on October 25, 2020, with an estimated budget of up to Ksh1 million.
