Fifty families in Utawala, Nairobi, woke up to find their houses swept clean by burglars on Wednesday morning, November 4.

The fifty houses, all located in a three-storey flat in an estate in Mihang'o, were broken into with occupants losing household commodities ranging from electronics to clothes.

Residents who narrated the ordeal suspected that they were robbed between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m.

"We found our doors wide open. They stole television, money and even ransacked bags. One neighbour also lost three phones.

"What astounds us is that we had locked our doors before going to bed. We had locked the upper locks and also those at the bottom of the door," one lady lamented.

The residents found overalls dumped outside the residential areas. The thieves also stole clothes on the cloth lines.

"Why are they stealing from us in the wee hours. They stole a car in this premise, two weeks ago. We don't even know what will happen tomorrow," another lady stated, adding that such robberies were becoming a common occurrence in the area.

Other residents suspected that they may have been drugged before their houses were swept clean. The matter was reported at Karangita Police Post in Utawala.

According to a comprehensive report released by the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) in May 2020, Nairobi residents stand a high risk of being victims of crime on any given day.
