The Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua unveiled the new look Nairobi Cinema as part of the Sinema Mashinani Roll-out (SMR) project.
The project, rolled out by the board, sought to offer filmmakers as well as players in the performing Arts sector a platform to showcase their talent.
The board acquired Nairobi Cinema, refurbished it and transformed it to Nairobi Film Centre (NFC).
The Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua announced the new look Nairobi Cindema on social media, Tuesday November 10.
"The Kenya Film Classification Board acquired and refurbished the 850 seater auditorium to provide a venue in the Central Business District (CBD) where creatives can showcase their talent.
"Located along the Aga Khan Walk right within the city centre, NFC is your place of choice for events, especially during this pandemic, where social distancing is mandatory in combating the spread of the disease," read part of his tweet.
Mutua said that the board has subsidized the rates to cushion the industry and to also make it affordable to all Kenyans.
"This is the biggest Cinema Auditorium in the city, the hygiene standards are top-notch and the five-star service and spaces are available at the lowest price possible," read his tweet.
Earlier in the year, the KFCB boss had emphasized the board's intentions of facilitating youths in the film industry. Recently, Mutua launched a Ksh100,000 monthly cash prize for Covid-19 content.
He noted that the board had taken time to assess the creativity directed towards the relay of positive and informative Covid-19 content.
"We are doing it monthly. As we speak we have seven official nominees for the month of May," said Mutua, noting that Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and his sons had released their video on March 28, 2020, and were rewarded.
Mutua also provided assistance to Kiptoo Rop, an Eldoret-based music producer who was forced to close his studio due to financial challenges. The producer shared his story with Citizen TV which prompted Mutua to give the producer Ksh100,000 to boost his art.
