The 2020 Form 4 class at Oyugi Ogango Girls' Secondary School in Rongo, Migori county has been thrown into mourning following the death of their principal.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Form 4 students cried hysterically and could not hold back their tears after learning of the sudden death of their beloved school principal.
The students adhered to the Ministry of Health guidelines on public gatherings as they maintained the one-meter social distancing rules.
Martha Ouma is reported to have succumbed to Covid-19 after developing symptoms including difficulties in breathing before she passed away.
Her death was confirmed by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Migori branch.
"KUPPET is saddened again and again to learn of the sudden demise of Principal Mathar Ouma, who until her death, was the Senior Principal Oyugi Ogango Girls in Rongo Sub-county," read a statement from KUPPET.
With the KCSE exams set to be undertaken in March, questions have risen over the students' mental and physical well-being as they continue to prepare for the national exams amid Covid-19 deaths and infections in schools.
The teaching staff from the school are seen trying to comfort the students who were in distress as they walked around the assembly trying to console the candidates.
The demise comes after Tononoka Secondary principal Mohammed Khamis died after testing positive for Covid-19.
The spike in Covid-19 cases has infiltrated into schools with more students testing positive as on Tuesday, November 17, 38 students from Marafa Secondary School in Kilifi County test positive for the virus.
On Monday, a Form 4 student at Lureko Secondary School in Mumias West Constituency succumbed to the Covid-19 virus.
Kabarnet Boys High School had 38 students test positive for Covid-19 as the school remained in operation but no one was allowed entry in the school apart from health officials.
