Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho tore into Deputy President William Ruto and his allies as he toured Msambweni in Kwale County.

True to his promise to set up camp in the area, the Governor made fiery speeches on November 17 and 18, calling our the DP for trying to use his allies to bar him from touring the county.

"Ata mimi siku moja nataka kuwa rais na nitakuwa rais, watu hawawezi panga siasa Nairobi na kuja Msambweni tena, kama nilienda kumpigia debe Imran Okoth Nairobi na pia seneta wa Kakamega na mjinga ana ujasiri wa kusema nisije Msambweni

(I also want to be the President one day. These people will not dictate Msambweni politics. If I went to Nairobi to campaign for Imran Okoth and Kakamega to drum up support for the Senator, who is this brave fool saying that I should not come to Msambweni)," he remarked.

He went on to state that he was angered by what he termed as attempts made by DP Ruto's team to gamble with the lives of the people of Msambweni who he claimed were grappling with both unemployment and land issues.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya had publicly asked Joho to desist from reigning in his backyard, adding that Kwale was not a sub-county of Mombasa.

“I’ve heard a lot of politics from ODM politicians. Some of the remarks are from my brother governors that they will come and camp here for combat. I wish to tell them that Kwale is the home of civilised politics, not war,” Mvurya said.

Mvurya is supporting independent candidate Feisal Bader, who is backed by Deputy President William Ruto. Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju had announced that the party would not be fielding a candidate in the by-election in the spirit of the handshake.

On the other hand, Joho and his ODM party are pushing for their candidate Omar Boga.

"Wacha waje hapa tupambane, kama ni kutamba nitatamba kama nikujam pasuka.. nataka kumsaidia Boga kwa maana ni kiongozi ambaye anasimama na ukweli (Let them come, I am ready to fight it out to the end. I don't care if they burst in anger. I am backing Boga because he is a leader who stands for the truth), Joho explained.

Boga and Bader will face off on December 15, in what is mooted as a Raila v Ruto mini-election.

DP Ruto had fronted Sharlet Mariam Akinyi but she has since returned to Raila's camp, announcing that she would not be on the ballot for the hotly contested seat.

Joho's team received a major boost following his impassioned speech, as the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association

(GEMA) in Msambweni vowed to back Boga's bid for the parliamentary seat.

When he landed in Kwale, Joho said he will show DP Ruto “dust” ahead of the by-election.

“From this day henceforth, I will be your guest. I will not leave Msambweni. We will camp here. In fact, we are going to get a house and live here until we go to the ballot. They will see dust that they have never seen in their life,” he asserted.

The Mombasa Governor went as far as jokingly stating that he would marry in Msambweni and have "viji-Joho (little Joho's - his children) running around in the county.
