Mother & 2 Daughters Die in Tragic Accident

A mother and her two children died on Wednesday night, November 25, after they were involved in an accident along the Kisumu-Awasi road.

Police reports indicated that the accident took place after their personal vehicle rammed into a speeding lorry in the accident that took place at around 8 pm.

Nyanza Traffic Police Boss Gladys Ogonda confirmed the incident saying that the two children aged 10 and 12 died on the spot.

On the other hand, their mother succumbed to the injuries at the Ahero Sub-county Hospital, where she was rushed for treatment.

In addition, two occupants of a Toyota Passo which was also involved in the collision are being treated at the Ahero Sub County Hospital and at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), there has been an increase in road accidents in 2020 compared to a similar period of time in 2019.

The latest statistics by the authority reveal that there was an increase of  5.8 percent in road fatalities as of October 31.

3,114 lives had been lost by October 31, 2020, compared to a similar period last year where 2,942 died.

The authority says that reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, drunk walking, drunk riding, failure to use helmets among other issues are some of the factors that attribute to the increase in road accidents.

Some of the measures that the authority has taken to reduce the accidents include; road mainstreamining in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) which is implemented through the government performance Contracting.
