Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko allegedly reached out to ODM leader Raila Odinga as his impeachment motion kicked off.

He, however, did not receive a response from Raila's office forcing him to reach out to President Uhuru Kenyatta through Jubilee's Secretary-General Raphael Tuju.

Sonko is said to have led an entourage of over 15 MCAs to Tuju's home to plead for his job.

Odinga had earlier in the week received directives from President Uhuru Kenyatta to coordinate with Jubilee leadership to eject the governor.

Reports alleged that he was asked to sign the Ksh 37 million budget and hand over Ksh 27 million to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services as the only solution to the impeachment bid.

Services in Nairobi are said to be at a standstill as NMS boss General Mohammed Badi and Sonko fight for control of the budget.

On Thursday, November 26, 86 MCAs out of 122 had already signed to support Sonko's impeachment.

Nairobi residents have until Wednesday, November 2, to present their views on the impeachment motion, before  Sonko appears before the County Assembly to defend allegations levelled against him.

He was accused of graft, abuse of office and violation of the constitution.

Sonko's spokesperson Benson Mulwa detailed that Sonko resorted to rallying his allies in the Senate and County Assembly to reject the impeachment motion.

"There is no way those grounds will hold. 90% of the issues the MCAs raised are being solved in court. To proceed with the impeachment motion would be to purport to start a parallel prosecution of the governor," Mulwa stated.

The governor is also reportedly seeking signatures to counter the 86 signed by MCAs which he argued that some of the signatures were not valid.

On Friday, November 27, Sonko intimated at being ready to exit the office. He stated he did not need to be saved, adding that he was ready to cede his governorship and resume his old life before venturing he got into politics.

In the event Sonko is impeached, Nairobi County Speaker Benson Mutura will take over as acting governor for 60 days as the county prepares for a by-election owing to the fact that the City does not have a deputy governor.

Sonko failed to appoint a deputy who would have taken over after Polycarp Igathe exited the office.
