Officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have reportedly been deployed at the Ministry of Lands to commence a digitization programme.

According to People Daily, the KDF staff are based on 10th floor of the ministry's headquarters at Ardhi House and operate through an outfit known as the Joint National and Resource Management (JNAM).

Sources who spoke to the publication intimated that the idea for the digitisation programme was to eliminate the notorious fraud and forgery of documents that is rampant at Ardhi House.

While Lands CS Faridah Karoney has acknowledged that digitisation of documents at the Ministry is ongoing, she has refuted that the KDF are involved.

In the recent past, President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed former military leaders to government offices, arguing that they were efficient in delivery, management and administration.

For example; the take over of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in Nairobi by Kenya Air Force Major General Mohamed Badi.

The airforce pilot is overseeing the transformation in Nairobi County; from roads projects to housing and water.

The take over of the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) by James ole Seriani. The parastatal has faced several issues ranging from graft to mismanagement.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) was also taken up by Gen (Rtd) Joseph Kibwana as the chairperson of the Kenya Ports Authority. Kibwana served as the Chief of Defence Forces during President Daniel Moi's regime.

The president has, however, made a clarification saying that he was not trying to militarise the nation.

“I am not militarising anything. I am using reliable Kenyan citizens to fulfill my agenda for this Republic. And the KDF are part of us and are also part of our citizens,” the president stated.
