Murang'a Women Representative waded into a public spat involving the County Governor Mwangi wa Iria and County Commissioner Mohammed Barre.

The county leaders were at loggerheads over the BBI signature collection exercise in the area.

Governor wa Iria was first to fire at Barre while presiding over the launch of a digital BBI signing campaign held at General Ihura Stadium in Murang'a town.

The county head accused the county commissioner of sabotaging the process by withholding the books meant for the collection of the signatures.

"With this book scheme, we have three days to complete the process, but he (Barre) has kept the books in his office and when I ask people if they have signed up, nobody has seen them.

"This is work we have been given by the president and we must do it. As the leader of the county, I will ensure it is done," he noted.

The governor further faulted the use of chiefs alone by the county commissioner in the exercise noting that he could have deployed county workers if the books were availed to him.

On his part, the county commissioner refuted the governor's assertions stating that the exercise had kicked off smoothly in various parts of the county.

"I received 400 books on Friday and they were distributed on the same day. More than 100,000 people have signed the document," he remarked.

Speaking after appending her signature, Sabina Chege called for both leaders to work for the common goal of ensuring the process progressed on schedule in the county.

"I call on all leaders to collaborate so that we can complete the exercise in good time," she urged.

As of Monday, November 30, the team leading in the collection of the BBI signatures co-chaired by former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, indicated that it had collected a total of 1.5 million signatures in five days.
