Seven senior officials in a public sugar firm have been earning millions in salaries despite being ousted by the workers on corruption claims.
In a special audit carried out by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu, the seven officials had been taking home the same salary as those appointed to replace the ousted managers.
She pointed out that the officials had been earning salaries for the past 18 months which was a major blow to the company that is facing a financial crisis.
Gathungu faulted the company's executive management for not dealing with the issue.
According to the auditor, the executive management was in limbo as some had supported the move to oust the seven officials while others had opposed the move. She warned that this further incurred heavy losses to the company over the management's indecisiveness.
" The bosses have failed to provide strategic direction on human resources at the company.
"This has resulted in the company having two sets of management comprising the ousted and the acting management teams both of whom are drawing salaries resulting in loss of Ksh6.4 million in form of salaries incurred on the moribund management team," part of the report stated.
Gathungu also revealed loopholes within the company's payroll system.
She noted that one could easily manipulate critical company employee data in the payroll without audit trails and without verification. This, she pointed out, was a cause for concern to the company.
The seven managers had not been in office since June 2019, when they faced allegations over corruption claims.
The workers accused the officials of fleecing the company while the workers went for months without salaries.
