The police service is in the spotlight for failing to apprehend a tycoon, two years after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji issued arrest orders.

In 2018, the DPP twice recommended for the arrest of Mombasa based tycoon Aman Kurji for allegedly demolishing a Ksh1.6 million perimeter wall in the city.

Kurji was incriminated by the men who demolished the wall. They accused him of hiring them to vandalise the property.

A court in Shanzu, Mombasa directed Haji to make a follow up with the police and investigate why his (Haji's) orders have never been obeyed.

Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda further called for the arrest and prosecution of the tycoon.

The court wants Haji to submit a report before January 19, 2021, when the case will be mentioned.

The DPP on November 10 lauded the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti for assisting his office in securing a 25.76% rise in conviction rates during the 2019/2020 financial year.

Reports alleged that the DPP and DCI had differences which affected the prosecution of some cases as police failed to act on Haji's orders.

DCI was also accused of bypassing Haji and attempting to prosecute suspects without the DPP's instructions.

However, Haji put the rumours to rest during an interview on Wednesday, November 18.

He called Kinoti on NTV during the live interview and the two denied being at loggerheads.
