A form two student slipped and fell at River Nyamindi on Wednesday, December 16, in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
The student, Lucia Mwende, is said to have been taking selfies with her friends when the tragic incident happened.
The mother to the girl, Lurencia Wambugu, narrated that Mwende's three friends came home running and alerted her of the unfortunate events.
Wambugu and her friends would then head out to the river in search of her body.
Residents stated that it was not the first time such an incident was happening, adding that the river is dangerous and it would be hard to trace the body.
“We know the history of this river…the body might be discovered after seven days,” he told Citizen Digital.
The incident came just months after another woman slipped and fell at Chepkiit Waterfalls in Nandi County.
31-year-old Dorcas Jepkemoi Chumba and her boyfriend Benjamin Kazungu, were having a photo session, when the former fell and drowned.
Kazungu watched helplessly as Chumba was swept away by the raging waters with his attempts to save her not baring any fruits.
"The dam was so full, I tried to rescue her but was not able to," Kazungu stated.
