Officers Gun Down 21-Year-Old Man For Assaulting Police

A 21-year-old man was gunned down by a detective after he reportedly assaulted a police officer at Majengo Bus Station in Nairobi on Friday, December 18.

The case was reported to Shauri Moyo Police Station on the same day at 11 am under OBNO 30 of18/12/2020. 

In the report, officers who witnessed the incident claimed that they were on foot patrol around the bus station when they came across a stranger who was armed with a pen knife attacking a traffic police officer.

The assaulted police was controlling traffic flow along the Majengo Road when the incident happened.

"He punched the officer on the neck from behind. The officer turned around and using a baton, he restrained the stranger to stop him from attacking him further.

The stranger identified as Atony Yonga instead fished out a penknife and attempted to stab the officer," the colleagues reported.

They added that a plainclothes officer who was passing by intervened and attempted to arrest the stranger who resisted. He was thus gunned down by the detective.

The report further claimed that the knife used in the attack was recovered. 

Senior police officers and Directorate of Criminal Investigation sleuths visited the scene and processed it before transferring the body to City Mortuary. 

A government pathologist was also ordered to conduct a postmortem on the deceased.
