A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Senior Private was pounced on by police on Tuesday, January 5 after allegedly defiling a minor.

The minor was rescued by police officers after an accident that was witnessed on Nyeri-Mweiga highway at around 6 p.m on their way to school after committing the heinous act.

Central Region Police boss Agustine Nthumbi confirmed the incident as the military officer appeared in court on Wednesday, January 6.

The army officer is reported to have volunteered to drop off the 16-year-old girl, who is said to be a distant relative, at her school in the region.

Things, however, took a wrong turn after the military officer took a detour and booked a lodging at Kiriani market where he allegedly committed the act.

The officer then proceeded with the journey to school but was arrested after being involved in an accident along the Nyeri-Mweiga highway.

A traffic officer stationed along the highway visited the scene of the accident and demanded to know the relationship between the man and the minor who was in the car, prompting the schoolgirl to confess the act.

The girl narrated that the military officer had offered to take her to school but stopped on the way and allegedly raped her.

After intercepting the vehicle at the accident scene police escorted the girl to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital for examination.

The KDF soldier based at the Embakasi Barracks was freed on a Ksh200,000 bond after denying charges of defiling the distant cousin at Kiriaini in Murang'a.

This comes two days after schools across the country fully resumed learning after a nine-month break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The reopening has been marred by dramatic events after a Form Two student at St Annes Kiriari Secondary School in Embu County killed herself in the family bathroom.
