Passengers aboard one of the commuter trains heading to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) were on Friday, January 15, stranded when the locomotive derailed while on transit.
The incident occurred when the wheels of the last coach of a train on the Athi River route went off the tracks forcing it to stop.
Nobody was injured in the incident which happened a few meters after leaving the station.
The passengers were forced to walk to catch another train as others sourced for alternative means to get to their destinations.
"If you planning to use the trains today avoid, one of the trains on the Athi river route has derailed off the tracks," one of the affected passengers warned.
Another incident occurred on January 7, when a train stalled leading to a delay for the commuters.
The commuter train from Embakasi heading to Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) stalled at the Makadara station at around 11 a.m.
The train had stalled on the mainline just after the Makadara Station which caused delays to other trains as it blocked the route to town.
Another accident was reported when a train crashed into a boda boda rider near the Pipeline stage on January 12.
Kenya Railways issued a warning to members of the public using unauthorised crossing intersections.
In the statement, the railway company asked citizens to follow directional signs and markings that provide guidance on where it is safe to cross the tracks.
"Only certain sections of the railway are open to the public," reads the statement.
