New details have emerged in the murder trial of Lawrence Warunge and his girlfriend Sarah Muthoni after the prosecution informed the court of its plan to turn Muthoni into a state witness.

The prosecution told the court that it was going through Muthoni’s files as it sought to turn her into a witness in the ongoing murder trial.

Warunge and Muthoni failed to take a plea in court on Monday, January 25, as had been anticipated. The prosecution offered details that made it impossible to have the suspects take a plea in court.

Warunge who is the key suspect in the murder case failed to show up in court because his second mental assessment report had not yet been released.

The suspect had been taken to Mathari Hospital before the trial began, but the results weren't ready in good time, prompting the court to adjourn to Tuesday, January 26.

Warunge, a 22-year-old university student, was accused of killing his father, mother, brother, nephew and a worker in Kiambu County on Tuesday, January 5.

The suspect confessed to the brutal murder after police traced him to his hideout in Lower Kabete, Kiambu County. Soon after the police arrested Muthoni who was accused of aiding and abetting Warunge. Reports indicate that Muthoni bought the murder weapon and also hosted him at her rental house.

Warunge later on revealed that his atrocious acts were influenced by a villainous character in the dark British drama dubbed Killing Eve who goes on a killing spree on all her victims.

The family of the suspect, however, described Warunge as a quiet boy whose life may have taken a wrong turn when he joined university.

During the burial of the deceased, his relatives declined to accuse Warunge of the murders, but instead pointed fingers at unknown assailants.

"On the night of Tuesday, January 5, unknown people gained access to the late Nicholas Njoroge’s family home in Ndundu, Karura Village and murdered all the family members who were present," read part of the eulogy.
