Education CS George Magoha has issued a directive to all school head teachers not to enroll unruly students expelled from other institutions.
Speaking during an address to boards of managements on Thursday, January 28, Magoha challenged officials and education stakeholders to be vigilante on the issue of indiscipline among children.
The CS noted with concern the rising cases of indiscipline in secondary schools across the country with students attacking teachers and torching dormitories.
Magoha revealed plan to meet representatives from various religious institutions to discuss the rising concern.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Chairperson Omboko Milemba asked the Ministry of Education to consider abolishing boarding schools.
"Boarding schools do not have a future. We should abolish them gradually in a manner that will not affect the education sector.
"They are not helping anything, they just increase fees. Day schools should be the norm. It will help parents to discipline their children," stated Milemba.
He also promised to provide a document in mid-February 2021 to help guide chaplains in primary and secondary schools on how to handle restlessness in schools.
Several schools across the country have had their dormitories burnt down by students during protests mostly carried out at night.
On Tuesday, January 19, 15 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates signed an agreement with the Education Ministry after teachers raised concerns over their conduct in school.
The Class 8 students at Kayuyu Primary School in Kiharu, Murang'a County, were said to have been unruly to the extent of threatening teachers and fellow students.
The 15 students committed to adhere to acceptable behaviour, and promised to obey their teachers and the law. They also agreed to be held personally liable if they break the good conduct code.
