An elderly woman from Gikandu sub-location, Murang’a County, has gone viral after a video emerged of her passionate speech on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The octogenarian addressed Kiharu constituents during a public baraza held on Thursday, February 11 where she passionately criticised the BBI in a fiery speech, often resorting to the English language to deliver her punchlines.

The speech was recorded on video and later shared by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and it immediately became an online sensation.

The elderly woman who is dubbed as ‘Shush wa Gakindu' also expressed her support for Deputy President William as she firmly rejected the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill.

"We don’t want anything about BBI. What is BBI by the way? We don’t know how it is written!” said the Granny.

According to her, the document will be rejected because politicians advocating for it are spreading propaganda to hoodwink Kenyans.

When asked where she learnt how to speak the English language, she said that she was well educated even though she hailed from a poor background.

“Yes I know how to speak in English! I was educated and passed well enough to go to Mugoiri Girls High School thought I did not make it there. My mother was poor and my dad could not afford Ksh15 which was a term's school fee” the grandma added.

In the video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, she asked the area MP Ndindi Nyoro to take her to meet Deputy President William Ruto.

The vibrant Granny asked Ndindi to arrange a meeting between her and the he DP, adding that she would tag along area women to show the DP that he has their full support.

“Thank you very much and congratulations on what you’ve done. Give me a definite period of time when you will take me to Mr. Ruto because I want to talk to him” granny told MP.

Netizens were quick to react to the video with a debate quickly ensuing on the points she had raised.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi praised her passion, further arguing her speech was a sign of a brewing political revolution in Central Kenya.

"Please translate...the lady is FIRED UP!" the lawyer remarked.

US-based human rights activist, Prof Maka Mutua, however, downplayed the sentiments expressed citing Winston Churchill's quote on the danger posed to democracy by ignorant citizens.

"Stone Age. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter — Winston Churchill," Mutua stated.
