Inooro Radio presenter Zulu Thiong’o has thrown his hat into the political ring as he seeks to replace the late Francis Munyua Waititu as the Juja Member of Parliament.

The presenter made the announcement on March 10, and asked the people of Juja to vote for him in the  coming by-election.

“Ladies and gentlemen. The great people of Juja Constituency, my name is Zulu Thiong’o. I wish to hereby offer myself for election as Juja MP in the forthcoming by election as an independent candidate.

“I kindly ask for your support as we engage and hit the ground running to make Juja great,” Thiong’o wrote on his social media accounts.

Kenyans took to social media to wish him all the best during the by-election.

“Zulu Thiong’o Amen, and may God guide you in all your ways and give you victory, “Lucy Maina wrote on Facebook.

Before Thiong’o announced that he would be vying for the seat, he had served as head of radio at Inooro FM for thirteen years. He began his tenure at the radio station in November 2007.

Before his tenure at Inooro FM, Thiong’o was a presenter and program producer at Kameme FM for two years.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Literature from the Kenyatta University, having joined the University in 1992 and graduated in 1996.

This will not be the first time that a media personality has joined politics. In 2017, Mohammed Ali widely known as Moha Jicho Pevu left the media industry and joined the political space as MP for Nyali.

13 aspirants including the late MP’s widow, Susan Njeri, have expressed their interest in the seat. Njeri submitted her papers on March 8 at the Jubilee headquarters ahead of the party primaries which will be held on March 29.

MP Francis Waititu ‘Wakapee’ succumbed to brain cancer on February 22 while receiving treatment in a Nairobi hospital.
