Jubilee Party and Muguga ward residents in Kiambu County are mourning the death of their Member of County Assembly (ANC), Eliud Ngugi Ngige.

The lawmaker, famously known as Thithia, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 16, while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital in Kiambu County.

Jubilee officials in Kiambu confirmed that Ngige succumbed to Covid-19 complications after he was admitted to the hospital for a number of days.

Ngige was a member of the Committee on County Public Service and Administration.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's party has not yet released an official statement on the death of the MCA, however, a number of his followers shared their condolence messages with the family.

"What a sad morning! Kiambu MCA Eliud Ngugi has passed on. May his soul rest in peace," one Douglas said.

His death comes a few weeks after the death of Juja MP Francis (Wakapee) Waititu who passed away on Monday, February 22, after battling brain cancer.

The MP was undergoing treatment at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi. President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogised Waititu as a progressive, trusted and devoted leader and said that the MP continuously raised public awareness on the disease.

“We’ve lost a very progressive, trusted and committed leader whose public actions always reflected the interests of his constituents.

"It is because of the trust and love that the people of Juja had for Hon Waititu that they entrusted him with a second term in a very competitive election despite his illness,” the President said then.

Deputy President William Ruto linked party UDA said that it would not field a candidate in the Juja by-election, to avoid a confrontation with Uhuru and Jubilee.

Among those looking forward to succeeding Wakapee is his widow Susan Njeri and Inooro FM presenter Zulu Thiong’o.
