Murang'a County Women representative Sabina Chege on Tuesday, March 16, revealed how she became a boss to her former managers at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) - just 10 years after joining at the station.
Speaking during a visit to Kigumo Girls High School, Murang'a county, the politician expounded more on her life journey and experiences from an actress, to a journalist, and ultimately to a formidable politician. She sought to encourage the students not to take education for granted.
Prior to joining politics, Sabina played the role of Rehema in the local soap opera known as Tausi that aired at KBC in 1995.
The politician, however, returned back to the station in 2005 and became a controller of commercial radio services. She was in charge of 18 radio stations in KBC.
"I was at KBC as an artist while acting but 10 years later, I went back and became a boss of the people who were my bosses," said Sabina.
Her sentiments drew enthusiastic applause from the students. Sabina further divulged her rise to success was not a bed of roses.
"After clearing form four at Mugoiri Girls Secondary school, my first job was that of a house girl but through God's grace I landed an opportunity to apply for an acting role at KBC," she stated.
The Murang'a women rep acknowledged that her acting roles and working at vernacular radio stations enabled her to pay her university fees. Sabina graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Nairobi.
She also recounted her journey in politics noting her election as the women representative for Murang'a in 2013 and reelection in 2017.
The politician encouraged the students to work hard and focus on their studies adding that education opens the doors to many opportunities.
She also alluded to her charity entity dubbed Sabina Chege Foundation which has offered scholarships to over 350 bright and needy students.
