Kenya Reports Highest Daily Covid-19 Deaths in 2021

  • Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday, March 18, announced that 1,225 people had tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 7,308 tested in the last 24 hours.

    At the same time, Kagwe announced that 17 patients succumbed to the disease during the same period, pushing the cumulative fatality to 1,954. This is the highest daily record of Covid-19 deaths for 2021. 

    The total confirmed positive cases now stand at 117,0535. The total tests conducted so far are 1,394,748. From the cases, 1,166 are Kenyans while 59 are foreigners. 691 are males and 534 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 93.

    Meanwhile, 142 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. Total recoveries now stand at 89,203.

    There are 793 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,250 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

    114 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 28 of whom are on ventilator support and 81 on supplemental oxygen. 8 in the High Dependency Unit ( HDU ).

    5 patients are on observation. Another 38 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 30 of them in the general wards.
