A police officer delayed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination at center after refusing to board a bus.
The officer, identified as Constable John Murithi, had been assigned to escort the papers to Kandomba Primary School in Mukororia Sub-Location, Mbeere Sub-County in Embu County on Tuesday, March 23.
A report by K24 TV, however, indicated that the officer declined to board the bus designated to transport the papers to the center.
The officer's actions delayed the center's exam by up to 40 minutes. The first paper of the day kicked off at 9:10 a.m. instead of the scheduled 8:30 a.m.
Muriithi did not give reasons for his refusal to board the bus.
“This resulted in the exam being taken to the neighbouring exam centre, Mukororia Primary School, where they were stored until the arrival of Murithi’s replacement,” read a police report in part.
Another officer was sent to replace him and Muriithi is said to have shown up at the examination center shortly before the exams commenced.
“Disciplinary action will be taken against the said police officer,” stated the report.
Apart from Kandomba Primary School, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha was shocked to find that candidates at Machakos Baptist Primary School were not ready to sit for the morning paper.
While conducting his regular inspections, Magoha found students at the school carrying desks from one class to another just minutes before the first paper was scheduled to begin.
In a clip that made rounds online, the CS is heard questioning a member of staff at the school why there was a delay before giving directions to them.
Multiple hitches have been experienced countrywide since the tests kicked off on Monday, March 22, including reports that over 100 girls delivered ahead of the tests.
