International entertainer Steve Harvey sparked conversation among Kenyans on Tuesday, March 23, after he posted a picture of him clad in a sweater with an image resembling Kenyan comedian Felix Omondi aka Dr. King’ori printed on it.
Kenyans online appeared to believe that the image which had an uncanny resemblance to Dr. King'ori, telling from its facial features - and went in to congratulate the comedian.
"Steve Harvey has recognized you, you've come so far," noted one of Dr. King'ori's fans on his Instagram post.
The comedian appeared to entertain the idea, and went on to state that a lot of people had approached him regarding the image on the shirt thinking it was him.
"People just have fun likening me to anyone, and I just take it because it's fun," commented the comedian.
Former BBC reporter Makena Njeri also expressed admiration for the design, commending the stylist for his creative ideas.
The design was chosen by Harvey's stylist Elly Karamoh, and is part of the Spring/Summer 2021 Dior collection featuring Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo.
Celebrities are known to have an eye for Kenyan pieces such as Oscar award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o, who impressed Kenyans by choosing Kenyan designer Deepa Dosajo's designs during a visit to Kenya.
Kenyan designers have also gained recognition from international fashion scenes such as the London Fashion Week which featured Favoloso By Nanu, Genteel, Nisisi Factory, Sevaria, Enda, and We Are NBO, showcasing their work on the premier virtual show in February 2020.
“Whenever we see images of Kenya and Nairobi, often, it’s the landscapes and wildlife that are often prioritized, over the incredible and dynamic people who live there,” said Sunny Dolat, co-founder of The Nest Collective.
