Insurance Body Warns Motorists in New Lockdown Order

The Association of Kenya Professional Insurance Agents (AKPIA) has warned motorists flouting curfew rules that their insurance claims will not be validated.

In a notice issued by AKPIA, only motorists with essential services authorizations are exempted from the curfew rules therefore, those who don't fall in the group should avoid driving past 8pm or else face the consequences.

"Insurance Companies/Agencies/Brokers would like to inform you that driving past curfew hours without essential services authorization or valid emergency reasons could render your motor insurance claim invalid,” reads an excerpt of the statement.

The association further advised motorists to adhere to all government and Ministry of Health Covid-19 guidelines.

''Please avoid driving past 8:00PM/Curfew Hours as ordered by the government and adhere to all other GOK/ MOH COVID-19 guidelines. Kindly contact your insurance company/agent/broker for any further clarification or information.” read the statement.

AKPIA, is a membership-based association and lobby for Professional Insurance Agents that represents the interest of its members who are insurance agents in Kenya.

This notice comes few days after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced new containment measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

On Friday March 26, President Kenyatta directed that curfew in Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru counties will begin at 8pm and end at 4am. However, the other Counties will continue with the 10pm to 4am curfew.

President Uhuru directed a cessation of movement by road, rail or air into and out of the disease-infected counties dubbed as one Zoned area.

In addition, the President stated that the government had vacated all curfew passes until a review by the Ministry of Interior is done. 

By Friday, Kenya had hit a positivity rate of 22 per cent, recording 2,008 more Covid-19 positive cases which was the highest number ever recorded since the first case was reported in the country on Friday March 13, 2020.
