152 in ICU as Covid-19 Cases Rise

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Tuesday, March 30, announced that 1,530 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 8,010 tested in the last 24 hours with the positivity rate rising to 19.1 percent.

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stand at 132,646. 

From the cases, 1,468 are Kenyans, 62 are foreigners while 842 are male and 688 are female. The youngest is a three-month-old baby while the oldest has 99 years.

Unfortunately, Kagwe announced that 12 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates. This brings the cumulative fatality to 2,147.

129 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. 74 from home-based isolation care while 55 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 92,290.

1,308 patients are admitted to various health facilities whereas 4,760 are in home-based care isolation.

On the other hand, 152 are in the Intensive Care Unit, 46 are on ventilatory support, 97 on supplementary oxygen and 9 are on observation.

Another 89 patients are on supplementary oxygen while 78 of them are in general wards and 11 in the High Dependency Unit.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 686, Nakuru 164, Kiambu 151, Kitui 68, Nyeri 67, Uasin Gishu 65, Machakos 41, Kajiado 30, Mombasa 29, Kisumu 26, Nyanadrua 24, Embu 244, Busia 23, Makueni 19.

Murang'a 16, Nandi 15, Kilifi 15, Taita Taveta 10, Meru 9, Trans Nzoia 8, Laikipia 7, Kakamega 7, West Pokot 7, Kirinyaga 3, Baringo 2, Kisii 2, Turkana 2, Vihiga 2, Bungoma 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Garissa 1, Isiolo 1, Kericho 1, Nyamira 1, Siaya 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.

In terms of Sub-county distribution; in Nairobi the 686 cases are from Westlands 93, Lang'ata 82, Kibra 49, Embakasi West 41, Kasarani and Roysambu 39 cases each.

Starehe 38, Kamukunji 37, Makadara 35, Embakasi Central 33, Ruaraka 32, Embakasi East and Mathare 30 cases each, Embakasi South 29, Dagoretti South 28, Dagoretti North 27 and Embakasi North 24.
