Former State House Comptroller Dies

Former State House Comptroller Abraham Kiptanui is dead. His death was confirmed by his family who issued a statement announcing his demise.

"We sadly announce the passing of Kiptanui during the wee hours of Easter Sunday morning, April 4. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the Nairobi hospital following a long illness.

"Funeral arrangements shall be announced at a later date, the family requests time to grief during this challenging time.

Various Kenyans online have take to social media to mourn the demise of a great patriot who would be remembered for his contributions and efforts to serve the nation.

"My condolences to Kenyans and his family for the loss. 

"To the family and friends of Former state comptroller Hon Abraham Kiptanui, take heart at this trying moments," read some of the comments online.

Kiptanui is known for being a powerful figure in the political arena and is the long-serving Comptroller of State House in President Daniel Moi’s tenure. He served in the powerful position at State House until his retirement in 1996.

Kiptanui was in charge of supervising quality accounting and finances regarding State House operations. He acted as the head of accounting, overseeing the operations of financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements

 His close friends and allies described his persona as unmatched due to his expertise in governance. 

According to his successor, Franklin Bett, the politician was known for his allegiance to Moi as well as strict firm rule.

Not one to make public appearances after his retirement, Kiptanui enjoyed a private life. He, however, made a public appearance during the funeral service of former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott in order to commemorate the politician.

"We were together in school and we have worked since then so we have lost a great man who has contributed so much to the building of a nation," Kiptanui stated.
