The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, April 7 shared a worrying case of road rage where a Probox driver stabbed a boda boda rider to death

The boda boda rider, Ian Mwenda, was riding from Maua, Meru County towards Antubochiu Market on Monday, April 5 when his cap got blown away by the strong wind.

Mwenda who was 25 years old, turned back to pick his cap so that he could go on with his journey.

The probox driver, who has been identified as George Miriti Kalung’e, was driving behind Mwenda and got enraged when the boda boda rider abruptly stopped on the highway to pick his cap.

Reports from an eyewitness indicate that Kalung’e stopped his probox and angrily charged at Mwenda asking him whether he wanted to be knocked dead.

To avoid the confrontation, Mwenda drove off towards lower Antubochiu market but the driver followed him and overtook him a few metres ahead.

After blocking the rider, Kalung’e came out of his car carrying a knife and stabbed Mwenda who sustained serious injuries and dropped dead on the road.

He was confirmed dead on arrival at the Maua Methodist Hospital where good Samaritans had rushed him.

Following the incident, DCI officers launched a manhunt for the suspect and he was arrested at Matuati area.

The car whose windscreen was smashed and blood stained clothes found in his possession were taken by the police and will be preserved for forensic examination.

The search for the murder weapon is still ongoing and Kalung’e will stay in police custody as he awaits arraignment.

Following the arrest, the DCI have reminded Kenyans to use the toll free number 0800722203 to timely report crimes so that justice is served.
