17 Die as Covid-19 Cases Increase

In the last 24 hours, 1,091 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 7,300. The country’s positivity rate now stands at 14.9%.

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 144,154, while the cumulative tests conducted so far are 1,549,388.

Of the cases announced today, 1,058 are Kenyans while 33 are foreigners. 610 are male and 481 are female. The youngest is a two-month-old infant day while the oldest is 100 years old.

Sadly,17 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. This pushes the cumulative number of fatalities to 2,309.

533 patients have recovered from the disease, 236 are from home-based and isolation care, while 297 are from various health facilities. The total recoveries now stand at 98,183.

As of Thursday,April 8 422,021 Kenyans had been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine.

110,523 of those vaccinated are health workers, 34,150 are security officers, 59,906 are teachers and 217,442 are members of the public.

A private company that had imported the Sputnik V vaccine to Kenya has written to the pharmacy and poisons board seeking to re-export the drug to Russia.

The deputy director of the pharmacy and poisons board, Dominic Kariuki, while speaking to senate health committee, confirmed that the company had started the process.

“The company is now in the process of officially applying. The letter of intent has already been given to the pharmacy and poisons board,” Kariuki said.

Ministry of Health banned the importation, distribution and administration of Covid-19 vaccines by private entities

The ministry however clarified that those who had received the first dose of the Russian vaccine would still get the second dose after three weeks.

“This will only apply to the 527 people who were vaccinated at the time of the ban,” Ministry of Health Secretary, Rashid Aman, said
