Deputy President William Ruto entertained guests on Saturday, May 9, during his daughter's engagement party.

In a 19 seconds video posted by Communication and Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi, an excited DP is seen controlling the knobs on the audio mixer as a Kalenjin song plays in the background.

All this time, he was being guided by DJ Protege who had been tasked with the day's entertainment.

The DP was hosting his Nigerian in-laws at his Karen home in a ceremony known as the Koito where dowry negotiations were taking place.

His eldest daughter, June, is set to wed a Nigerian lawyer and scholar who specialicises in taxation and illicit financial flows out of developing countries.

June is a diplomat working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and currently serves as the chargé d'affaires at the Kenyan Embassy in Poland.

Ruto has previously expressed interest in supporting artists especially after they shared what they have been going through in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On April 24, 2021, the DP met met with Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones and other artists to discuss the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the entertainment and creative industry.

Some of the requests they made included; the creation of a special government fund to support the artists during this downtime.

Here, the government, and persons of goodwill would support to reengineer the industry in digital space to facilitate online music concerts and to assist the industry to adapt to the new normal.

"In our meeting, we also discussed the possibility of coming up with a policy that will help weed out bureaucracy, brokers, and impediments that slow the growth of the industry," the DP said.

He acknowledged that artists have worked hand in hand with the government and appreciate their proposal to assist in confronting the pandemic.
