President Uhuru Kenyatta and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will conduct a virtual visit to Westlands Primary School today, Thursday, May 13.

The visit is expected to commence at 12 noon EAT. They will tour Westlands Primary School Nairobi, Kenya and Cleves Cross Primary School Ferryhill, United Kingdom.

The two schools are a part of the Connecting Classrooms Through Global Learning (CCGL) program whose mandate is to create collaboration with schools globally, by recruiting and educating them on matters that affect the globe.

“The Centre for Global Education has been contracted by the British Council as an Expert Lead Centre. We support the recruitment of schools and clusters who would like to engage in international school partnership projects," the project describes itself.

They will interact with pupils aged nine to ten years old, to advocate for equality in education and prioritise technology and girls’ education.

This is part of the Global Partnership for Education(GPE) initiative which aims to change the education systems for more than one billion girls and boys in up to 90 countries and territories.

"We must use the opportunity of GPE'S financing conference to make ambitious pledges to invest in quality education so our children and young people have the skills and knowledge to seize the opportunities in the 21st century," quoted Uhuru.

In April, President Kenyatta and PM Johnson held talks on the Global Education Summit which the two countries will co-host in July 2021.

"I am delighted that the UK will co-host the repleshinment for the global partnership for education 2021.

"I urge the global community to come together, dig deep and ensure we fund their vital plan to give every child an opportunity to education", the British PM noted.

The goal for the summit is to raise Ksh500 billion, to put 175 million children in schools around the world.
