A policeman's Probox car rolled several times on Juja Road in Huruma estate on Friday morning, June 4.
The accident occurred near the Kariobangi roundabout in Nairobi at around 2 am. The car had two occupants, a Police Constable Adow Abdilahi and one passenger.
PC Abdilahi who was driving the car died instantly after it veered off and rolled into a nearby ditch.
Police officers who visited the scene reported that the passenger narrowly survived death.
However, he incurred critical head and back injuries and was attended to at the scene before being rushed to hospital.
“The passenger was rushed to Madina Hospital, where he is admitted. He is in a serious but stable condition,” the police report detailed.
PC Abdillahi's body was taken to a nearby morgue as police looked into the case trying to figure out the cause of the accident.
The police officer was attached to Pangani Police Station.
Statistics by the NTSA details that more than 75 percent of road traffic casualties are economically productive young adults.
Pedestrians and passengers are the most vulnerable as they account for 80 percent of the deaths. Buses and matatus are the vehicles most frequently involved in fatal crashes.
According to the agency, road fatalities between January 2020 and December 2020 stood at 3,663, compared to 3,508, during the same period in 2019.
