Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have disclosed how the former boyfriend of Mutindi Nthuku, the main suspect in Shantel Nzembi's murder case, aided the police to arrest her.

Nthuku's ex-boyfriend is a General Service Unit (GSU) officer based in Kilgoris, Narok County. Reports indicate that the main suspect had initially made a call to him asking for financial help.

The detectives privy to the investigations, who intercepted the call, quickly picked up the officer in Narok and brought him to Nairobi.

The police, together with the officer hatched a plot to nab the suspect. The GSU officer requested to meet with Nthuku in Nairobi briefly to which she agreed.

Oblivious of the plot, Nthuku showed up and was arrested by detectives during the meeting. The officer was then released to go back to work in Narok.

The detectives also uncovered a past criminal record of Nthuku where she had been charged with stealing money from her employer's M-pesa shop.

Nthuku is among four suspects who have been nabbed by the police in relation to the murder of the minor. The others include Livingstone Makacha Otengo, Frankline Mbuthia and Agnes Kasiva Nzioki.

According to Isinya DCI boss Jeremiah Ndubai, the police are still in pursuit of another woman who is believed to have been working with Nthuku.

"The motive of the kidnapping could have been monetary. We have a tight case against the suspects," Ndubai stated.

The deceased went missing on Sunday, May 30, after she and her friend Sharon were allegedly approached by Nthuku.

Later that evening, Nzembi's mother Christine Ngina went to look for her eight-year-old daughter only to find out that she was missing.

Ngina affirmed to the police that she soon began receiving calls from an anonymous number that demanded ransom from her.

However, her daughter's body was found in a gunny bag the following day.
