The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) on Wednesday, June 16, issued a water disruption notice affecting a number of Nairobi estates.
The utility company announced that water interruption would commence on Thursday, June 17, at 6:00 am with the services to resume on Friday, June 18 at 6:00 am.
The estates to be affected by the water interruption include the whole of city centre, areas along Mombasa road, South B and South C areas and the neighbourhoods, University of Nairobi main campus, Coca Cola factory.
Other areas include the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), EPZ-Athi river, the whole of Industrial area, areas along Jogoo road, city stadium, Maringo, Bahati, Buruburu, and the surrounding estates.
"The interruption will facilitate interconnection of the new and old water pipelines on Uhuru Highway between Museum Hill and KBC area to enable the release of the road median to the Expressway road contractor," part of the notice read.
They urged Nairobi residents to use the available water sparingly as the utility company worked towards restoring the supply.
The ongoing construction of the Nairobi expressway has led to major disruptions within the city as contractors rush in a bid to complete the Ksh62 billion project.
This has led to vehicles piling up for hours on end during rush hour. Motorists have decried the situation urging the government to look into their plight.
This eventually led to an inspection by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) chairman Wangai Ndirangu and Director-General Peter Mundinia on Saturday, June 5 to investigate the traffic situation along the road.
KeNHA later directed the contractor in charge to implement better traffic management system along Mombasa road in order to ensure smooth traffic flow.
"The section around GM will have a diversion of traffic to mitigate the traffic congestion experienced along the section," confirmed the agency.
