The lifeless body of a professor at Masinde Muliro Univerisity was discovered at his home in Lurambi on Thursday, July 8. The body of the deceased lecturer, Professor Ezekiel Kasiera was discovered at his house in the early hours of the day by his house help.
“When I woke up, I found the toilet he uses was dirty so I cleaned it,” narrated the deceased professor's house help.
She went on to add that the Professor coughed a lot during the night before his untimely passing, with the cause of death yet to be established.
Professor Ezekiel Kasiera's death comes barely a week after a student at Masinde Muliro University was brutally murdered.
Police reported on the death of the student who studied a course in education at the facility, noting that she was first assaulted before being hit on the head with a blunt object resulting in her death.
Students at the university were on Wednesday last week forced to take to the streets to demonstrate, decrying the rampant insecurity at the university.
“This is not the first time a comrade is found dead around Lurambi, Kefinco and Tizo,” a student leader from the university lamented.
Another student commented on the case saying that “Some of the security lights are not working. We even launched an official complaint at the governor’s office but nothing has been done.”
A Kakamega resident expressed further frustration saying, “insecurity has been very high in Kefinco. This is a very sad case, you’ll find that perhaps the murdered student was the only child her parents had. We ask the police to ensure that such cases are stopped and perpetrators of such crimes are arrested.”
The rise in insecurity at institutions of learning has heightened anxiety among students and teachers alike.
