DP William Ruto on Friday, July 9,  met Mama Elizabeth Mueni, a maize hawker from Machakos town accompanied by a section of Ukambani leaders.

Those present included Mwala MPs Vincent Kawaya (Mwala) Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town).

Mueni sold maize to Ruto at a roadside stall during one of his previous visits to the region, forging a relationship with the DP who has been elaborate on uplifting the common mwananchi.

"It was such a pleasure meeting Elizabeth again. We agreed to keep talking, and that both of us will keep fighting for her dream to come true, " Ruto tweeted.

"She visited me today and shared her story; a story of persistence, hard work and devotion. Mama Mueni's dream is to give her two children a different life- a good life," he added.

Ruto had previously urged his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, to focus on development projects, reviving the economy and curbing the Covid-19 pandemic rather than promoting the Building Bridges (BBI).

The meeting came a few hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta kicked off his much-anticipated tour of Ukambani.

The head of state was accompanied by former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, and area governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui).

Uhuru is expected to launch multi-billion projects ranging from building and refurbishing roads to, construction of schools and water projects. He will also unveil completed projects in the said sectors such as the Yatta Dam Water Supply.

The tour had been cancelled after wrangles emerged between Kalonzo allies and the three governors. The latter preferred using the visit to publicise their development records whereas the former were reportedly leaning towards securing endorsements and outlining their 2022 strategy.

Kalonzo reportedly called the President and assured him that the region was united and had settled their scores, convincing the head of state to revisit his plan.
