There was a heavy traffic snarl-up along Thika Road after three vehicles were involved in a road accident on Thursday afternoon, July 15, 2021.
The accident occurred at the Githurai flyover on the lane heading to Thika.
The vehicles involved in the accident include a lorry, a personal car, and a probox belonging to the security and logistics company Group Four Service(G4S).
In images seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the lorry rammed into the personal vehicle from behind which then hit the G4S probox, pictured overturned on the road.
The personal car has been wrecked from the tail end to the rear passenger seats.
Reports indicate that several people believed to be victims of the accident have been rushed to hospital in ambulances which shorty arrived at the scene of the accident.
The accident occurred in the inner-most lane which is usually the fast lane as per Kenyan roads requirements.
Police officers arrived at the scene to control traffic and begin the process of clearing the site of the accident.
Motorists using Thika Road raised concern over an increase in accidents on Thika Road due to unmarked, unsigned road obstructions by contractors building the Bus Rapid Transit stations.
The BRT plan integrated in 2015 was in a bid to streamline congestion in the Central Business District.
