A fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon, July 18, burnt down the Golden Lion Battery warehouse behind Sinotruk's Howo Building along Mombasa Road in Nairobi. The building is next to Tuskys Headquarters.

A thick smoke towering over the building and sky is indicative of a serious fire.

Kenyans.co.ke spoke to a member of staff of the Kenya Airports Authority(KAA). He noted that the dark and heavy smoke affected the flight approach path of the neighbouring Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The fire brigade responded accordingly and at the time of publishing this story, the crew was working to contain the situation.

This is another major inferno happening in the city as Gatakaini Building in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) caught fire on Friday,July 16.

A section of Thika Highway from the Khoja roundabout was temporarily shut on Friday. This was to allow the first responders to put out the inferno before it could spread to other parts of the building.

Prior to that, the home of political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi was brought down to a crisp in a massive blaze on July 14 in the dead of the night.

Police officers stationed in Runda made an appearance and informed the fire brigade who arrived at the scene and put out the fire until 4 am in the morning.

In 2018, the Disaster Management Sector was established. It is responsible for disaster risk and crisis management especially incidents of fire.

The sector is under the office of the governor and is headed by a chief officer.
