Media strategist and consultant Peter Opondo on Monday, July 19, broke his silence after he was fired from the Standard Media Group on Friday, July 16.

In a statement on his Linkedin page, Opondo acknowledged that his services were terminated from the media house.

He added that his immediate boss had launched a complaint to the Human Resource department saying that he was not the right person for the job.

"I have worked for many employers over the past 20 years...it is the first time I am (being) terminated for "unsatisfactory performance".

"There was no formal appraisal or feedback, there was no documentation or minutes about my alleged performance shortcomings, there was never discussion with or feedback from my boss, there was no PIP. Just a sacking letter," Opondo begun.

The media strategist further revealed that the Standard Media Group Management had offered him the options of either signing the termination letter or resigning of his own volition.

"To "protect my professional reputation" - so that the company can announce I left to pursue "personal interests". I chose to embrace my sacking. I was fired. It is what it is. This is nothing to be ashamed about.

"It's someone's opinion about me, it doesn't change who I am. I am pretty sure I will be vindicated soon...So I own my low, and learn from it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Fail early, fail often, fail forward. It is life!" he concluded.

Opondo had just stayed in the company for a period of five months.

He was in charge of editorial content in all the Standard Group's broadcast properties.

Sources privy to the matter told Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, July 16, that Opondo was allegedly a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and organised his interviews at KTN News. This reportedly irked the management.

The media boss has worked in all major media houses in the country.
