Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a boda boda rider in Bungoma in connection to the brutal murder of Peter Oteng' and aide to Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Bungoma South police boss Benjamin Kimwele confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect was in custody helping police with crucial information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

Detectives asked the court to grant them more time to interrogate the suspect who was last seen in the company of Oteng' alias Storm on Friday night.

" We asked the court to grant us more days so that we can continue interrogating the suspect and see if we can get more information from him," Kimwele stated.

"So far all he says is that he dropped the late on the main road at the Kanduyi-Bungoma dual road opposite Outlaw's Bar, and that's a few meters from the scene of the crime", he added.

This comes barely a day after a key witness in the murder of Storm was attacked and killed by unknown assailants. Edward Maruti was killed after two men ambushed him at his home and attacked him and his family.

Maruti who hails from Kimilili town, Bungoma County, was chopped with a panga leading to his death.

According to Kimilili OCPD Mwita Marwa, the victim had handed names of the suspects involved in the killing of the MP's assistant.

Police believe those implicated in the murder of the MP's aide were the same criminals who targeted Maruti and his wife.

"The victim knew two of the suspects who killed Peter Ochieng alias Storm and had given us the names of the two. Investigations are ongoing to nab the two who are well known by residents here (Bungoma County)," remarked the Police boss.

Wamunyinyi, who spoke to the press on Saturday, August 7, expressed shock and disbelief following Storm's murder.

The lawmaker explained that his Communications Assistant was to be dropped home by a boda boda rider. However, since he did not have money at the moment, the MP's driver paid for him using the mobile money payment platform - MPESA.

"I rushed to the scene and I found he (Storm) had been mutilated badly. He was bleeding and blood was oozing from all parts of his body. He had deep cuts on his head and his arm was cut off," the Kanduyi MP stated.
