10 students from Ibiriga Day Secondary School sustained injuries and were rushed to Chuka County Referral Hospital for treatment.

The students had been given a free ride to their school.

A witness confirmed that prior to the incident, the bus was not speeding but it veered off the highway due to the slippery nature of the road.

Road accidents have been on the rise in recent months as compared to 2020 according to Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna.

“Comparing the numbers of road accident cases between January and February, 2020 and the same period in 2021, there is an increase of 148 cases,” stated Oguna during a past press briefing.

Oguna highlighted Road rage, overlapping, reckless driving and dangerous overtaking among factors contributing to increase in road carnage.

Other issues were drunk driving, drunk walking, drunk riding and failure to use helmets.
