A fatal road accident broke a bond of friends who never left each other’s side, from working together, attending social functions, to what they posted on their social media platforms.

Before the fatal crash that happened on Wednesday, August 18, the four had shared a photo on their Facebook pages, painting a picture of a strong camaraderie between them.

The bond between Victor Oduor, his brother Stephen Kasila, friends Edward Musalia and Shem Chege, was unbreakable.

However, the inseparable friends met the cruel hand of death when they hired a vehicle to travel to Kitale for a burial.

Three of them died in a road accident in Gilgil. Only Kasila survived but having suffered serious injuries.

“The four were headed to Kitale to attend the burial ceremony of Victor’s relative,” said their fellow boda boda rider, George Ngugi.

The four were successful boda boda riders who operated from the Corner Stage area in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

“We are clearly devastated by the tragic news. It is so painful to lose colleagues in such ghastly manner,” Ngugi stated.

"Whether it was a dowry ceremony, a social event or even burial ceremonies, they were there for each other and that has been the trend."

The two brothers who perished in the accident hailed from Busia but lived in Naivasha for five years. The third one, Musalia – also hailed from Western Kenya.

The boda boda operators have taken control of the burial preparation vowing to give them a befitting sendoff as the three were like brothers to them.

According to a report issued by Gilgil Sub County Police Commander, John Onditi, the three died on the spot.

The driver of the car they were driving in reportedly attempted to overtake when they collided with a truck head-on.

“The driver of the saloon car overtook several vehicles before the vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming truck,” he said.

The bodies were taken to the Gilgil Sub County Hospital mortuary, and the vehicles towed to Gilgil Police Station.
