A school opened and run by conservationist Kuki Gallman was on Friday, August 21, set ablaze by suspected bandits in Laikipia County.

The Education Centre operated by Gallman, author of the best-selling book “I Dreamed of Africa”, was set ablaze by over 20 bandits who forced their way into the conservancy in the volatile region.

According to the Gallman's, it took workers three hours to put out the inferno that had destroyed a school used by pastoralists' children.

"Over 20 armed bandits were seen entering the institution by our security officers. Later, a huge fire was reported at the institution," Sveva Gallman was quoted by the Nation.

"It took our workers over three hours to put out the fire. The children have been left with nowhere to learn as several classrooms were badly damaged," she continued.

Kuki Gallman is not new to these type of attacks as her ranch has previously been invaded by the bandits who even resulted to shooting her.

Gallmann was injured on the leg after her car was shot at two years ago.

Last month, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, commissioned officers from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and Special Unit Forces from the police to protect wealthy ranchers who have been in protracted conflicts with the pastoralists.

Matiangi stated that his team will create a General Service Unit (GSU) camp in the area to protect the ranchers, who raised complaints during the meeting.
