Deputy President William Ruto has denied being a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking in Kinango Constituency on Tuesday, August 24, Ruto stated that his current political affiliation is with the Jubilee Party in which he was elected DP.

He stated that he is still part of the outfit and currently holds a leadership position at the party.

"As we speak, I am not a member of UDA. I am the Deputy Party leader of Jubilee," he began, "Jubilee Deputy Party leader, me, William Ruto. Understood?"

He stated that him, Kinango Member of Parliament (MP) Dalu Tayari, Aisha Jumwa, Kimani Ichung'wa and 150 MPs decided to come together for the purpose of uniting Kenyans.

Ruto asked leaders from the Coast region to join him and other leaders from various parts of the country in "building a well where they would all drink water from without being disrespected." He also invited Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi to join his team, assuring the governor that the 'well' did not belong to him.

"If you feared that the well belongs to William Ruto, I have told you that I am a member of Jubilee, this well is not mine," the DP stated.

On the morning of August 24, police brought down tents and dispersed mourners attending a funeral service the DP was scheduled to attend. Ruto had been invited as a guest in the burial service of Mahoo Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), the late Ronald Saraguni.

Ruto apologised to Saraguni's family as well as the mourners shouldering the blame for the incident. He stated that the melee occurred because he was an invited guest.

He later went to Kilifi to attend the burial of Mama Sada Mgalla, mother of Kilifi Governor Salim Mvurya, who died on Monday, August 23 while receiving treatment in hospital.

The DP maintained membership with Jubilee despite the ongoing wrangles witnessed between him and party leader Uhuru Kenyatta. The end of the bromance between the president and the deputy was hallmarked by the handshake between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

He also faced calls by the BBI proponents to tender his resignation over detouring from the party and its agenda. The most recent came from the his boss and head of state, who asked him to resign if he was not happy with the government

On August 5, Ruto hosted leaders affiliated to the hustler nation in his Karen home. He was on record, stating that all politicians who had attended the meeting were members of UDA and whoever was absent was not.
