Ruai Family Hospitals' operating licence has been reinstated following an earlier announcement of revocation from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) on Tuesday, August, 31.
The hospital's owners were ordered to present themselves before the KMPDC Disciplinary and Ethics committee.
"Ruai Family Hospital facility has been suspended from being a Covid-19 centre but order for the closure has been vacated," KMPDC CEO Daniel Yumbya announced.
According to Yumbya, the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee found out that a nurse by the name Ruth Matitika handed 144 doses to one Caroline Kinyanjui.
She handed the Covid-19 vaccine doses on Friday, August 27. Thereafter, Caroline headed for a vaccination drive being carried out on Saturday, August 30.
Unfortunately, the facility reported that it had missing doses on August 30, at 2030 East African Time(EAT).
The action of Caroline and Ruth led to the violation of a directive that the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe cautioning Kenyans from taking jab in unauthorised centres.
Ruai Family Hospital released a statement yesterday confirming that indeed one of its nurses pictured in Murang’a vaccinating residents in a political set-up.
“She confirms that she was not under any direct authority to take part in the exercise but did so on her own volition.”
The committee established that indeed the hospital had been diverting vaccines to uncredited individuals who vaccinate Kenyans.
The suspension of the hospital against being used as a vaccination centre is still intact according to KMPDC.
