A Kilifi politician has been charged with the murder of a tycoon, his son, and a land agent in an incident that occurred in the Junju area of Kilifi County on Wednesday, July 7, this year.

The former Junju Ward Member of County Assembly, Onesmus Gambo, is accused of killing Sidik Anwarali Sumra, his son Rahil Zulfikar Mamdani, and land agent James Kazungu.

Gambo is also accused together with Mzungu Mwangemi, alias Said Chote alias Huzu, for destroying Sumra's motor vehicle, a Toyota Fielder, by setting it ablaze.

Sumra was once feted by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He runs a successful dairy farm known as Sumra Dairy Farm, which is located in Kikambala-Amkeni in Kilifi.

His rise to fame came in August 2016 when his animals emerged winners in various categories during the Mombasa Agricultural Show prompting Uhuru to fete him.

On Friday, September 2, government prosecutor, Edgar Mulamula, told Justice John Onyiego that Mwangemi is facing another murder charge at the Mombasa High Court and that he was only out on a Ksh500,000 bond.

According to the filed affidavit by the investigating officer, Isemek Dennis, Mwangemi reportedly killed a man in Junju over land in 2014 but was released in 2016 on bond.

According to Isemek's affidavit, Gambo held two meetings with the tycoon, one in his house and another at a hotel in Mtwapa, to discuss the purchase of land.

"Sumra is a well-known person who owns a dairy farm within Junju," said Isemek in his affidavit filed at Shanzu Law Courts. "It was the former MCA who introduced him to the local community with the intention of purchasing land in the same area."

The prosecution has lined up 16 witnesses.

The police had claimed they arrested the 13 after they found bloodstains on their clothes. However, some rebuffed the claims saying officers picked them from their homes in a swoop.

The two are currently being held at the Shimo La Tewa Prisons awaiting sentencing.
