A seemingly philanthropic act by Kakamega County Women Representative Elsie Muhanda has unwittingly attracted the ire of online trolls.

This is after the politician shared an image of a house she renovated for a less privileged family.

In her attempt to put a smile on the face of one of her constituents, Muhanda renovated the constituent's mad house and emblazoned on it, "Elsie Muhanda Mama County Kakamega funded”.

The politician shared a picture of the house before and after sprucing it up on social media, with the caption, “This inspires me, transforming the lives of my people”.

Unfortunately for her, the move, which had all the hallmarks of a political campaign gimmicks, backfired as netizens tore into her, ripping her into pieces for the stunt.

“Some politicians are just silly. They stop at nothing in their desperation for attention and cheap political points,” a social media user lamented.

“It's wrong for Elsie Muhanda to emblazon her tittle on someone's house, in the name of 'uplifting people's lives',” another social media user lamented.

“A woman rep somewhere in this country has decided to write her name on a house she renovated for a needy constituent. This is so shameful of you Hon. Elsie Muhanda,” yet another social media user condemned the act.

After the politician realized how angry social media user were with her stunt, she deleted the post.

Unfortunately, it was too little too late because the image had been shared far and wide on social media.

Kenyans have been treated to similar political gimmicks before, especially when the General Election is around the corner.

In April 2020, for instance, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga came under fire from social media users, after he emblazoned his image on sanitizers the country had donated to members of public.
