Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a pastor believed to have been involved in a series of robberies in Nambale town in Busia County.
In a statement on Friday, September 17, the DCI indicated that the clergyman was arrested alongside two other men who are suspected to have terrorised residents in Nambale.
According to the DCI, the trio was arrested in Bungoma town and taken to Nambale Police station for further interrogation.
The suspects led detectives to their hideout, where a variety of stolen items were recovered.
Sleuths reported that they recovered gas cylinders, mobile phones and also arrested another suspect with items that were stolen.
"Two main suspects and a pastor were arrested after a four-day sting operation that was conducted to bring an end to the escalating crime wave that had bedevilled the town," the DCI stated.
"A 24-year-old woman who was found with items believed to have been stolen was also arrested for handling stolen property," further stated the DCI.
The DCI said that the suspects, currently in their custody will face robbery with violence charges.
This comes amid investigations in Lugari over the torching of 15 houses belonging to members of one clan by attackers who were allegedly avenging a deceased relative.
The attack affected learning at Mutonyi Primary School, with reports that over 200 learners from affected villages did not report on Tuesday.
Matete Deputy County Commissioner Scholastica Kosgei said police were investigating the matter. He said five suspects had been arrested.
